Day 2: Golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes national park
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the Volcanoes National Park offices in Kinigi at 7 a.m. to meet up with the rangers for a briefing. Following the briefing, you will be assigned a park guide and will make your way deep into golden monkey habitat via dense bamboo stands interspersed with open glades. The guides will lead you to the habitat of groups of ‘habituated’ golden monkeys that have become acclimated to human presence. The excursion will take between 30 minutes and 4 hours, depending on the location of the golden monkeys. Once they are located, you will be permitted to spend one hour with them within their natural habitat, understanding about their behaviors, habits, and lifestyle while photographing and filming them. Following your one-hour encounter with the golden monkeys, you will return to the park headquarters, where you will meet your driver guide and drive back to your hotel for lunch.
After lunch and some rest, you’ll go to the Red Rocks Initiatives art gallery. This Art Gallery provides information about environmental conservation and allows you to interact with local artists. You will be introduced to conservation themes art exhibits, interactive painting demonstrations, and you will be able to draw your own art and take it home as a keepsake at the conclusion of the day. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
