Day 4: Descent to the crater floor for game drive and drive to Arusha
After an early breakfast, descend 2000 feet to the crater floor in search of the wildlife and birds that call Ngorongoro Crater home. It is an once-in-a-lifetime chance. As you make your way into the crater, you’ll learn some amazing facts about this spectacular natural geological paradise. At the bottom of the crater, you will embark on a game drive. Over 30,000 animals live in the crater’s grasslands, including the Big Five’s Lion, Leopard, Rhinos, Buffalo, and elephants. Other mammals include cheetahs, hyenas, wildebeests, hartebeests, zebras, gazelles, elands, hippos, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, reedbucks, bat-eared foxes, painted wolves, and servals.
Over 550 bird species have been reported within the crater and on the crater rim. You’ll surely spend some time identifying special species such as Flamingos, Common Ostriches, Secretary birds, Kori Bustards, Crowned Cranes, Bateleurs, Martial Eagles, Rüppell’s Vultures, Black-bellied Bustards, Golden-winged Sunbirds, and many others. After the game drive you ascend up the rim.
You will be taken back to Arusha for 4-5 hours in the afternoon. Where you will be dropped off at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home, or at the hotel, bringing this 4 days wildlife viewing safari to a close.
