Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Moshi to Mkomazi and do afternoon game drive

After breakfast, the driver will pick you up from one of the Moshi hotels and drive you to Mkomazi National Park for three hours. Traverse through Tanzania’s ever-changing scenery and settlements. When you arrive, you will check into the lodge for lunch. Go on a wildlife drive in the afternoon at Mkomazi, which features classic dry terrain with old baobab trees, rocky hills, savannah woods with umbrella acacias, and flat grassland valleys.

Mkomazi National Park is located near Mount Kilimanjaro to the northwest and south, the Pare and Usambara Mountains, and Kenya’s large Tsavo National Park to the north, providing common ground for migratory herds of elephant, oryx, and zebra during the rainy season. Together with Tsavo, it constitutes one of the world’s largest and most important protected habitats.

Mkomazi National Park is unique among national parks in that it features a black rhinoceros sanctuary as well as a captive-breeding program for the African wild dog. Seeing these two endangered species, as well as giraffe, eland, hartebeest, zebra, buffalo, elephant, and the long-necked gerenuk, is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Over 450 bird species have been reported, including endemics such the cobalt-chested vulturine guinea-fowl and other large ground birds like the ostrich, kori bustard, secretary bird, and ground hornbill.

You return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay after the wildlife drive.

Day 2: Transfer to Tarangire national park for game drive

After breakfast, you embark on a 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, which is home to giant baobab trees, bush savannah, and seasonal marshes, adding to the natural beauty of this reserve. Tarangire National Park is regarded as one of the best sites in the world to see elephants up close. The park is also home to buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests, who are constantly pursued by predators such as lions. Leopards are occasionally sighted, while cheetahs are rarely seen. Upon arrival, you will go on a game drive to see all the possible wildlife. From the open roof of the safari jeep, you will be able to take in the scenery and observe the animals.

Tarangire’s lush plains are bordered with breathtaking massive Baobab trees, Africa’s largest trees and a haven for a wide variety of species. Elephants flourish in this area, with some herds numbering up to 300 animals. There are herds of Giraffes, Elands, Gazelles, Buffalos, Impalas, Wildebeests, Hartebeests, and Waterbuck, as well as Lions, Hyenas, and over 500 bird species, including the world’s largest bird, the Yellow-collared lovebird, and the heaviest flying bird, the Kori Bustard. Raptors can also be seen in the park. You return to the lodge for lunch and some rest.

After lunch, you will set off on a three-hour trip to the Ngorongoro Crater area.

You’ll also drive through Karatu, a charming, colorful village popular with visitors to the region. The Ngorongoro Crater is the conservation area’s main draw. In 2013, the Seven Natural Wonders organization named this world’s largest unbroken volcanic crater one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders. It is ringed by 2,000-foot-high walls that rise from the volcano’s surface. Upon arrival check in the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

As you make your way into the crater, you’ll learn some amazing facts about this spectacular natural geological paradise. At the bottom of the crater, you will embark on a game drive.
