Selous was named after the late Frederick Selous, a well-known European explorer, and was later designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Selous Game Reserve, roughly the size of Switzerland, is an untouched African wilderness with a unique ecology that includes notable savannah trees, undulating savannah grassland plains, and rocky outcrops thought to have been formed by the Rufiji River many years ago. Big cats such as leopards and lion prides can also be found in Selous. You return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay after the wildlife drives.
