8 days Zanzibar Adventure Safari exploration day by day

Day 1: Arrival at Zanzibar international airport and transfer to Stone town

Upon your arrival at Zanzibar airport, one of our skilled driving guides will be there to warmly welcome you. You will then be taken to Stone Town, where you can choose to relax in one of our luxurious hotels.

In the evening, we suggest exploring the Forodhani Market located in the Forodhani Gardens for an exceptional culinary experience. The gardens are situated by the seaside, making it a perfect spot for an afternoon stroll to appreciate the historic buildings of Stone Town. However, the lively evening market truly brings the gardens to life at night. You can indulge in a variety of Zanzibari seafood, pizza, falafel, sugar cane juice, massive samosas, coconut bread, and crepes dripping with chocolate syrup ribbons.

Alternatively, you may opt to end your first day in Zanzibar with a relaxing evening on our hotel terrace, watching the sunset and enjoying dinner from our restaurant, which offers both local and foreign cuisine.

Meal plan: Dinner.

Day 2: Full day exploration of Stone town

You will be picked up from your hotel by a tour guide after breakfast for a walking tour of Stone Town, the intriguing old area of Zanzibar City. While wandering through the twisting streets of Stone Town, you will notice the various architectural styles of Zanzibar’s diverse ethnicities and fascinating history, including mosques, churches, and ornately carved doorways.

You will also visit the slave market, which was a flourishing East African slave trade centre in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries until the British shut it down. Today, the ancient slave market is home to the Anglican Cathedral Church of Christ, which houses many memorials to the city’s harsh past.

You will also explore the Sultan’s Palace, which is now a museum. The palace was originally constructed in the nineteenth century for the Sultan and his family before becoming a government building following the 1964 revolution. The Arab Fort, Zanzibar’s oldest structure, will also be visited. The fort was built after the Portuguese were ousted from the island in 1699 and has served as a garrison, a prison, and a railway terminal.

A visit to the lively market and gift shops will allow you to browse the island’s distinctive crafts and curios. Your expert local guide will share stories about Stone Town’s past and provide insight into living in Zanzibar. After a full day of exploring Stone Town, you can return to your hotel to unwind before dinner. You have the option of dining at the hotel, Forodhani Market, or one of the many local restaurants.

All meals are included in the meal plan.

Day 3: Full day excursion at Safari blue

During the 3rd day of your 8-day Zanzibar Safari package, start your day with a delicious breakfast before embarking on a boat ride to explore Safari Blue. You can choose to go snorkelling to see the beautiful coral reefs or simply relax and soak up the sun while enjoying meals at sea. While on the boat ride, you’ll be amazed by the stunning views of the dolphins in Menai Bay and the perfect swimming conditions in the lagoons. After a full day of adventure, return to your hotel for dinner and to spend the night. Meal plan: All meals are included

Day 4: Prison Island visit and dhow sunset cruise

After enjoying breakfast, you can embark on a boat excursion to Prison Island. Here, you can take a tour of Lloyd Mathew’s architecture, which was completed in 1893. The island is also home to Aldabra gigantic tortoises. The surrounding beach is a stunning coral sanctuary, perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

For lunch, you will have various menu options to choose from. Afterwards, you can take an hour to relax and tour the city. Later on, you will take a dhow sunset cruise. This will give you a breathtaking view of the beautiful Indian Ocean along the stone town coastline. In the evening, you will be entertained by experienced Swahili singers performing live traditional music. Finally, you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay. All meals are included in your meal plan.

Day 5: Spice Tour and Northern Beach Resort exploration

After your morning meal, you’ll head to the first beach resort on Zanzibar’s northeastern coast. During the journey, you’ll stop to take a spice tour of the farms. The spice industry in Zanzibar is significant, having been brought by the Omani Arabs in the 19th century when spices were a valuable global commodity. Following the abolition of the slave trade, spices became the primary source of wealth for Zanzibar.

Spices are essential to the lives of Zanzibar’s inhabitants, used in their cuisine, as remedies for various ailments, and as pigments and henna for decoration during festivals and weddings. It’s easy to see why Zanzibar is dubbed ‘The Spice Island’ when you witness the flourishing plantations of cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, nutmeg, and turmeric root. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample some of the unique fruits grown here, such as jackfruit, custard apple, rambutan, and carambola, as well as plants like henna, lipstick tree, and lemongrass.

Afterwards, you’ll head to a hotel located in the north of Zanzibar Island, where you can relax, dine, and spend the night. All meals are included in your meal plan.

Day 6: Enjoy the full day at the resort, at beach relaxing and participating in various optional activities

After enjoying breakfast, you have the freedom to either relax on the beaches or participate in various activities at your leisure. If you’re a fan of watersports, the resort has a professional PADI-accredited dive company on-site that organizes and supervises your diving excursions. You’re in good hands with one of the best diving firms in the world that understands the best sites for diving.

In addition to diving, other watersports available include kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing. On dry land, there’s a fitness facility, beach volleyball, billiards, and table tennis. If all of that is too much for you, there’s also a spa where you can unwind, or you can lounge by the pool and soak up some sunshine. If you want to explore more of the island, you can arrange a trip with the hotel concierge. In the evening, you can relax with a sundowner and listen to the sounds of the resident resort band. You’ll be staying in the hotel for the night, and all meals are included in your meal plan.

Day 7: Dolphin tour and Jozani forest tour

Begin your day with a delightful breakfast before embarking on an unforgettable adventure with the dolphin tour. This 3-hour exploration of Zanzibar’s magnificent wildlife includes dolphin-spotting, snorkelling, and a visit to the oldest mosque in East Africa. With a knowledgeable guide, you’ll travel by motorboat from a seaside fishing town and then snorkel to observe the marine creatures beneath the waves.

The coastal waters of Kizimkazi provide a consistent food source for dolphins, making it an ideal location for them to milk their calves, relax, and socialize. Kizimkazi is home to several bottle-nose dolphins throughout the year, with shyer humpback dolphins also visiting from time to time.

After the dolphin tour, you’ll continue your journey with a professional guide on the Jozani Forest tour. This rainforest is home to the red colobus monkey, which is unique to Zanzibar, as well as bushbabies, wild pigs, and a variety of bird and butterfly species. The nature paths are lined with mahogany and eucalyptus trees, and the environment changes as you enter the mangrove forest, which attracts lizards, vertebrates, and birds and is essential for preventing beach erosion. As you cross the boardwalk above the murky waters, keep an eye out for a variety of tropical fish and crabs that call this place their feeding ground. You may even spot the elusive Zanzibar leopard, which was last seen in 2003 and is believed to be extinct.

In the late afternoon, return to the resort and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the beach, swim or partake in any other activity of your choosing. End the day with a delicious dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. All meals are included in the meal plan.

Day 8: Transfer back to Zanzibar International Airport for departure
