Detailed 3 days car hire Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Tarangire for afternoon game drive
Start your day early by getting picked up from the lodge. You’ll travel southwest for two and a half hours to reach Tarangire National Park, located in Northern Tanzania. This beautiful and serene park is known for its elephant migration, birdlife, and authentic safari experience. Surprisingly, many visitors to the region avoid Tarangire, leaving much of the park untouched.
Upon arrival at the lodgings, enjoy a delicious brunch before taking some time to relax. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive in search of unique animals. Tarangire’s green plains are adorned with majestic Baobab trees, the largest trees in Africa, which provide a safe haven for a diverse range of wildlife.
Elephants are particularly abundant in this region, with some groups containing up to 300 animals. You’ll also get to spot herds of zebras, giraffes, elands, gazelles, buffalos, impalas, wildebeests, hartebeests, and waterbucks. Keep an eye out for lions, leopards, hyenas, and cheetahs that prey on these animals.
Plus, you’ll get to admire over 500 bird species, including the Yellow-collared lovebird, the largest bird in the world, and the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird.
After a thrilling day, return to the lodge to rest and recuperate for the evening and night. You’ll be pleased to know that all meals are included in the meal plan.
Day 2: Walking safari and game drive at Tarangire national park
Start your day with breakfast before embarking on a guided walking safari in Tarangire National Park. Witness the incredible wildlife up close and observe their footprints, including elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, antelope, eland, impala, and giraffe. The park is home to over 600 bird species, such as the Yellow-collared Lovebird, one of the world’s largest birds, and the Kori Bustard, the largest flying bird in the world. Raptors can also be spotted in the park.
After lunch, continue your adventure by exploring the park and searching for the “Giants of Tarangire” – African elephants and baobab trees. Take a game drive towards the Silale Swamp, an essential part of the Tarangire ecosystem. The swamp acts as a natural sponge during the rainy season, releasing water slowly during the dry season, thus attracting thousands of different species.
The park is dominated by enormous herds of hungry herbivores, which attract lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, and the critically endangered African wild dogs/painted wolves. Return to the hotel to have dinner and spend the night.
Meal plan: All meals are covered
Day 3: Drive to Lake Eyasi for cultural encounter with the Hadzabe and Bushmen tribes
Head to Lake Eyasi village for a cultural excursion with the Hadzabe and Bushmen tribes after breakfast. The Hadzabe dwell in the caves and cover their private areas with skin rather than clothing.
During your safari, you’ll participate in the everyday activities of the local people. This includes hunting expeditions using traditional weapons like arrows and bows. You’ll also visit the Hadzabe, who are skilled ironworkers that trade their creations with the bushmen for meat, knives, and arrows.
You’ll have the opportunity to observe local farmers as they enhance their crop production, especially with onions. Your 3 days car hire safari will conclude when you’re driven back to Arusha, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport.
